Windows users would know that the 'error code 43' is associated with the Device Manager, a troubleshooting tool that we often recommend to update/reinstall drivers to fix common PC problems. Because Device Manager is a hardware manager tool, the error code basically says that there is something wrong with one of your hardware devices. This could be internal or an accessory that you connected externally.
The first thing you need to do is identify the device that is not working correctly, like Keyboard or mouse, external HDD/SSD, display, etc. This will help with the troubleshooting steps as some of them will need this information. Usually, launching an app or performing a task triggers the associated hardware device, helping with the identification. For example, you should begin with the graphics card if launching a game triggers the 'error code 43' message on your screen.
Let's begin.
1. INCOMPATIBLE HARDWARE
Sometimes, connecting an incompatible accessory or peripheral can trigger such a response. Check if the device is working correctly. You can also check the specifications and whether it meets device requirements. Some hardware devices come with an installation CD with necessary driver files. Alternatively, you may also find these files on the manufacturer's website.
2. REBOOT
Before we move on to more complicated solutions that will take far more time, I would recommend you to reboot your Windows computer once. It can fix the 'error code 43' and can fix quite a few common issues.
3. RECONNECT HARDWARE DEVICE
Another way is to remove the device and then reconnect. Did you connect something via the USB port recently?
Disconnect and reconnect the hardware device to view if that fixes the issue. This step is suitable for externally connected devices and not those that require dismantling your computer. At this point, you can also try and replace the cable you are using to connect the hardware device externally. A faulty cable can lead to such errors.
4. TROUBLESHOOT
Windows 10 comes with a troubleshooting tool for many services. Some of them cater to hardware devices like printers, Bluetooth, sound, and others. You can choose the correct troubleshooting option based on the hardware device throwing the 'error code 43' on your screen.
Step 1: Press Windows+I to open Settings and go to Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
Step 2: You should now view a list of troubleshooting options. Select one based on your needs and follow on-screen instructions to find out if it helps.
5. REINSTALL, UPDATE, ROLLBACK DRIVERS
At times you'll have to reinstall, update, and roll back drivers to get the software and Windows system function normally. You can do so from the Device Manager itself. First, you'll have to figure out which hardware component is facing this issue. For example, let's say it's the graphics card.
Step 1: Search for and open the Device Manager from the Start menu. You may also find this option in a shortcut menu that shows itself when you press Windows key+X.
Step 2: You can find the graphics card under Display adapters heading. You should view the make and model of the card listed here. Right-click on it to access the options menu.

6. RE-ENABLE DEVICE
We will revisit the Device Manager to enable/disable the device. Again, you need to know which hardware device is not working correctly before moving on with this method.
Step 1: Open the Device Manager from the Start menu as you did previously.
Step 2: Let's assume that the Bluetooth is not working as it should. So, we will expand the Bluetooth menu and right-click on the Bluetooth device name to select Properties. Under the Driver tab, you should view Enable Device.
If you are viewing Disable Device instead, then it is already enabled. You may disable and enable again to check if that fixes the 'error code 43' on Windows.
7. DIFFERENT COMPUTER
Do you have access to another computer or maybe one owned by a friend? External plug-n-play devices are easy to test on a different computer. That will rule out the possibility that there is something wrong with the device itself or maybe the USB port it is connected to.
8. NVIDIA APPS ISSUE
Gamers will agree, NVIDIA apps often cause errors. We would recommend you uninstall the following three NVIDIA apps using Revo Uninstaller to ensure no traces are left behind.
- NVIDIA GeForce Experience
- NVIDIA PhysX System
- NVIDIA Graphics Driver
Reboot your computer and reinstall the NVIDIA graphics card driver and other software. You can download the latest versions from the links above.
